The 1000 Most Common Words in English: Number 2- of

of

1. Two of the kids have gone home.
2. Of course you can borrow it!
3. The President of France will be there.

The word “of” is incredibly common when we speak English. Be careful not to confuse it with “off”.

For example:
- Please turn off the TV.
- One of your dogs is outside.

Also, don’t use “of” instead of “have“.

For example:
- I could’ve (could have) been there. (Correct)
NOT:
- I could of been there. (Wrong)
